RIO FERDINAND has warned Wayne Rooney not to make a rash decision about his Manchester United future.

It was claimed at the end of last season that Rooney, 27, had made a verbal request to leave Old Trafford.

Although David Moyes re-iterated his belief that Rooney is not for sale at his first official press conference, the issue has become a thorny one in recent weeks.

Ferdinand, who signed a one-year contract extension, cited the example of Cristiano Ronaldo as an example as he has won fewer trophies at Real Madrid since leaving Old Trafford.

"For instance, Cristiano has been ridiculous as a football player individually but has he won more trophies since leaving than what we've won? That's the way I look at it," Ferdinand told reporters.

But I just look at things in a plain, black and white way - I want to win trophies so why would I leave hereRio Ferdinand

"I wouldn't say that he shouldn't have gone there - it was his dream to go there, so you have to respect that.

"But I just look at things in a plain, black and white way - I want to win trophies so why would I leave here?"

Rooney has also been a mooted target for Arsenal and Chelsea.
