MANCHESTER UNITED'S chances of securing a dream return for former great Cristiano Ronaldo took a body blow after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insisted he will retire at the club.

The 28-year-old has been repeatedly tipped to return to United in recent months, and recently admitted he misses the Red Devils and English football.

Ronaldo has also been linked with French sides PSG and Monaco, but Madrid chief Perez is adamant the Portuguese forward will finish his playing days in the Spanish capital.

"The person who wants to retire at Real Madrid is Ronaldo, and Real want him to retire here too," Perez told Spanish broadcaster Univision.

"There haven't been any negotiations (on a new contract) because he is on holiday. Be in no doubt, Cristiano will retire here because he wants to. Just as (Zinedine) Zidane and other great players have done."
Ronaldo's current deal at the Bernabeu expires in the summer after next, meaning on his current terms he can start talking to other clubs in January 2015.

Perez also indicated that Madrid want to retain Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain, and that the Gunners were yet to bid for the Argentine.
