What Foods Should You Avoid on Your Period?

Sugary Sweets and Your Period
 Sugar
Craving sweets on your period? That chocolate bar or cupcake may taste good, but it will result in an inevitable sugar crash, which will make you even more irritable and moody. If you really can't do without your sweet fix, keep portions to a minimum.
Alcohol
Because it causes dehydration, which increases cramping, alcohol is best omitted during your period. A hangover mixed with cramps, bloating and mood swings just sound like misery anyway.

Salt
Excessive sodium can cause water retention and bloating during your period. Avoid salty foods during that time of the month for a bit of relief.

Caffeine
Caffeine is proven to increase menstrual cycle symptoms because it elevates estrogen levels. It can increase irritability, bloating, cramps and breast tenderness. So stay away from your caffeine rich foods and drinks!

Fats
Fatty foods increase your estrogen levels and can worsen cramps from your period. Avoid fast food at all costs!

Melons
You would think all fruits and veggies would be good for you, even during your period. But because melons are so dense with water, they can actually make your flow heavier. How annoying!

Ice cream
Lactose intolerant women should avoid ice cream while on their period especially, as it can increase cramps and may cause diarrhea.
