Police kill notorious robber in Benue, after 10 years



Everyday for the thief, one day for the owner, so goes a popular saying. The Police in Benue State have finally gunned down, Mr. Tyolumun Kor famously known as Awilo, a notorious bandit who was declared wanted by the command for about ten years, after a serious gun battle in Naka town of Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala, the development was due to the commitment of the commissioner of police in charge of Benue State, Mr. Kakwe Chris Katso, to permanently eliminate crime in the food basket state.
It was gathered that the daredevil criminal, who heads a robbery gang, has been terrorising the entire Tyoshin axis of Gwer West area of the state. The police had received series of reports of his atrocious activities and had declared him wanted for about ten years. It was also gathered that Awilo was a number one of political thugs in Gwer West area.
Awilo, we gathered was killed on Wednesday when him and his gang had robbed at gun point and waylaid two business women who had gone to buy grains at the Naka market.
It was learnt that  the police had traced the robbery gang, three men and a lady, to an abandoned uncompleted building where the robbers were hiding.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala said that the police acted on a tip off. He also said that when the robbers noticed the arrival of the police they quickly laid ambush and started shooting sporadically.
He further disclosed that it was after the exchange of gunfire between the police and the robbers that the ring leader was shot and killed while the others were arrested. He disclosed that items including an English pump parting gun, military camouflage uniforms, charms and other dangerous weapons were recovered from the criminals and that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
