REAL MADRID president Florentino Perez maintains Manchester United made an offer to nab Gareth Bale from Spurs in the summer.

Bale became the world's costliest footballer when he joined for £85m following protracted negotiations
that lasted the entire window.
The mercurial Welshman scored on his La Liga debut but pulled out of the game against Getafe due to injury.
But Perez insists the club didn't pay over the odds for him.

Bale has come cheaply
Florentino Perez
"Bale has come cheaply," he told Cadena SER radio."Signing the best players out there is Madrid's philosophy and Bale was the best available player on the market this summer. We had been following him for two years."Tottenham did not want to sell. We learned that Manchester United had made an offer and we made one ourselves."Bale is expected to play in the derby against Atletico Madrid at the weekend.
