Will Smith on turning down 'Django Unchained': 'I needed to be the lead'

When Quentin Tarantino’s western revenge-fantasy Django Unchained was first announced, casting rumors pegged Will Smith as the titular slave-turned-vigilante. But Smith, who teams with his son Jaden in this summer’s sci-fi epic After Earth, tells EW that he turned down the part because his character would’ve been second fiddle to the bounty hunter (played by Christoph Waltz) who teaches Django his trade . “Django wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead!” says the Men in Black star, whose departure opened the door for Jamie Foxx to play the role.

Smith says that before he left the project, he even pleaded with Tarantino to let Django have a more central role in the story. “I was like, ‘No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!’” (Ironically, Waltz was considered a supporting actor during his Oscar-winning award season, while Jamie Foxx was promoted as the movie’s lead.)

But no hard feelings: Smith was a big fan of the final product. “I thought it was brilliant,” he says. “Just not for me.”

MEXICO CITY — Mexican authorities say a 9-year-old girl has given birth in western Mexico and they are looking for the purported father, a 15 year-old.

Jalisco state police spokesman Lino Gonzalez says the baby girl was born last week at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara. He says the girl and her baby are doing well.

Gonzalez said Wednesday that the girl's family alerted authorities after she gave birth and the alleged father has not been seen since in the neighborhood the both live in. He says that if the teenager's paternity is proven he could face child sex abuse charges.

Try more of this and I'll take you to court. Come on, move on and get over the rejection I repeatedly gave you every time you have tried to contact me and your other exs. 1.  Shortly after gettin married, I found out that my husband had faked being in the Army, faked PTSD and flashbacks (gave me a concussion one night during a "flashback"), he also lied about deployments and losing his friends overseas. He had also told me that he had a daughter that was killed in a DUI accident and a sister that was raped and murdered. None of this was true. And to this day, he is still keeping to his story, even though there are no records for his military service, and his entire family telling me that none if it was true. I am deployed in Afghanistan now and he is trying to get me to pay spousal support because he doesnt want to work. I cant believe i married that thing.
