Fulham bos Felix Magath says there is no substitute for experience

Felix Magath 039 s Fulham must travel to fellow relegation strugglers Fulham

FELIX MAGATH believes managerial experience will always prevail over youth in a relegation battle and that prediction will be put to the test today.
Magath’s Fulham side face fellow strugglers Cardiff in a make-or-break relegation shootout in Wales.

The winners can still dream of the great escape, but the writing will be on the wall for the losers in a game neither side can afford to slip-up in.

But the experienced Magath, who at 60 is 19 years Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s senior, is in no doubt that age gives him over the edge over his novice opposite number.

“I’m convinced the job as a manager in a football club is a job where you need experience,” said the German.

“It’s much better if you have experience. The managers from the clubs that are playing for the Champions League clubs have all older managers.”

Magath is convinced rock-bottom Fulham, who are four points off safety, can stay up but time is running out. To compound their woes, the injury list is mounting. Scott Parker (knee) and Kostas Mitroglou (hamstring) are non-starters today and Damien Duff’s season is over as he prepares to go under the knife.

With games against the likes of Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham looming, it’s now or never if the west Londoners plan on extending their 14-year stay in the top-flight.

“I knew it would be a difficult mission,” he added.

“But I get the feeling here that everybody knows there are games ahead of us that we can win.

“I’m convinced we will avoid relegation.”
